Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5 in Virtual Box 6.1 in Laptop

This post about installing Read Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5 in Oracle VirtualBox 6.1 in Laptop.

Installed Laptop Details

  • OS Windows 10 Home 
  • Memory(RAM) 16GB 
  • Storage 1TB SSD


Required Software's

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5 - Download here
  • Oracle VirtualBox 6.1 - Download here


Oracle VirtualBox Version


Click on New



Choose Virtual Machine Name and Operating System


In my case RHEL7.5, type Linux and Version Red Hat 64 bit


Choose Memory (RAM) Size. In my Case 2048 MB


 Choose Hard disk as "Create a Virtual hard disk now"



 Choose Hard disk file type as "VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)"



Choose Storage on physical hard disk as "Dynamically allocated"



Choose File location and size. In my case Size 20 GB


Start Virtual Machine RHEL7.5


Select start-up disk





Click Start and Choose "Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5"



Choose Language - English (United States)



Installation Summary


Click on SOFTWARE SELECTION and select required Software's


Click on Server with GUI and Select required Add-Ons (In my case I choose all). Click Done



INSTALLATION DESTINATION - Choose "Local Standard Disk - ATA VBOX HARDDISK" - 20 GB which we allocated during initial VirtualBox creation. And keep all other default settings.



Installation Summary and click "Begin Installation"



USER SETTINGS - root and other user configuration



Choose root password




Created one additional user in my case "sboda"



USER SETTINGS completed and now Installation will take little while to complete.



Reboot Virtual Machine once installation completed.



Choose "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 7.5" as shown below



Accept License and click "FINISH CONFIGURATION"




Login as "root" user and test. Click on "Not listed?"



Login as "root" user



Welcome screen and choose language. In my case "English" and Click "Next"



Choose keyboard type. In my case "English (US)". You have an option to skip this step as well.



Select "Location Services" "ON/OFF" based on your requirement. This option allows applications to determine your geographical location. In my case "ON".



Online Accounts. I choose "Skip"



Now RHEL7.5 installation is completed and "Ready to Go". Click on "Start using Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server".



Click right click and choose "Open Terminal"


Enjoy RHEL7.5 in VirtualBox.
